Q: What is the difference between Ex d and Ex i?
A: Ex d (Flameproof) uses a heavy enclosure to contain an explosion. Ex i (Intrinsically Safe) limits the electrical energy within the device to a level too low to cause ignition, even if a fault occurs.

Q: Do the gauges require a special barrier?
A: Intrinsically safe (Ex i) devices typically require a Zener barrier or galvanic isolator barrier to be installed in the safe area to limit the energy passed into the hazardous zone. Flameproof (Ex d) devices do not require a barrier.
