Shock-Proof Pressure Gauge
In the complex environment of industrial production, the stability of pressure measurement directly affects equipment safety and production efficiency. Ordinary pressure gauges are prone to pointer shaking, inaccurate readings, and even damage to the mechanism in environments with vibration or pulses. In contrast, shock-resistant pressure gauges, with their unique design, have become a "must-have" equipment in vibration conditions. This article will conduct an in-depth analysis from three dimensions: model, structure, and material, to help you make precise selections and applications.
Model
The model of an Shock-Proof Pressure Gauge usually includes core information such as the measurement range, structural form, and installation method. Taking the mainstream YN series as an example:
·YN-60: Y stands for pressure gauge, N indicates shock resistance, 60 represents the diameter of the dial (in mm). Without a suffix, it is assumed to be radially edgeless installation, suitable for small and medium-sized equipment (such as air compressors, hydraulic pumps)
·YN-100ZQ: The "ZQ" indicates axial edge-mounted installation, which is suitable for embedding into the control cabinet panel to prevent vibration transmission. It is commonly used in strong-vibration scenarios such as ship engine rooms and mining machinery.
Selection principle: Based on the vibration intensity (for example, if the equipment vibration exceeds 3.5m/s, a shock-resistant type must be selected), the medium characteristics (such as corrosive environment requires stainless steel material), and the installation space, a comprehensive selection is made.
Structural Design
The stability of the shock-proof pressure gauge stems from three core designs:
Dual damping system
·Physical buffering: The watch case is filled with high-viscosity silicone oil or glycerin (in accordance with ISO VG 1000 standards), which absorbs over 80% of mechanical vibration energy, reducing the amplitude of the pointer movement by 80%.
·Sealing design: For the axial type with edge-mounted installation (such as YN-100ZQ), a double-layer glass is used to isolate the damping fluid and positioning pins, preventing the leakage of oil from affecting the accuracy.
Dynamic response optimization:For applications involving pulsating pressure such as compressors and pumps, the shock-proof pressure gauge achieves this by extending the movement path of the pointer (for example, by using a spiral spring tube), converting instantaneous pressure fluctuations into gradual changes, ensuring a long-term stability with an accuracy of ±1.6%.
Select by Material
The material directly determines the corrosion resistance, temperature resistance and service life of the pressure gauge.
Case and connector:
·Stainless steel: Resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, suitable for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. It can operate stably in high-demand scenarios such as nuclear power and food processing.
·Copper alloy: Low cost, easy to process, commonly used in hydraulic systems without strong corrosive effects. However, it should be avoided from coming into contact with ammonia medium (as it is prone to stress corrosion).
Spring Tube and Movement:
·Phosphor bronze: It has good elasticity and is resistant to fatigue. It is suitable for high-temperature (from -10℃ to 60℃) environments, such as in ordinary industrial equipment.
·Stainless steel: Resists deformation even at high temperatures (-40℃ to 200℃), suitable for steam pipelines and high-temperature reaction vessels.
Damping fluid and seals:
·Silicone oil: Has a wide temperature tolerance - does not solidify at -40℃ and does not evaporate at 200℃. It is the preferred choice for high-temperature applications (such as the hydraulic system of injection molding machines).
·Nitrile rubber seals: Resistant to oil but not to solvents. Fluorine rubber seals can withstand strong corrosive media, but they are more costly.
Application scenarios and selection suggestions
Scenarios where an earthquake-resistant pressure gauge is mandatory
·Strong vibration environment: Ship engine room (vibration acceleration greater than 5 m/s²), mining crushers, select axial installation models.
Pulsating pressure medium: Outlet of reciprocating compressor (pulsation up to 0.2 MPa), hydraulic system of injection molding machine (impact frequency 30-50 Hz). Preferentially choose structures with buffer screws.
Key parameters for selection
·Range: Covers 1.5 times the working pressure (for example, for a 10 MPa working condition, select 0 - 16 MPa). Avoiding long-term operation at full range to prevent fatigue of the spring tube.
·Connection: Select the appropriate thread based on the equipment (such as G1/2, M20*1.5). For corrosive media, use 316L stainless steel connectors.
Maintenance and Installation: Extended Lifespan
·Installation specification: Install vertically and ensure that the damping fluid is evenly distributed. The inclination angle should be ≤ 30°; for principle vibration sources, a buffer tube should be added if necessary.
·Regular maintenance: Calibrate once every 24 months. In high-temperature environments (above 80°C), inspect the silicone oil status every 12 months. If the oil becomes cloudy or leaks, it should be replaced immediately.
·Extreme environment handling: -20℃ and below: Oil and glycerin-filled thermometers are prohibited. An alternative low-temperature silicone oil type is available. In highly corrosive environments, the integrity of the stainless steel surface's passivation layer must be checked regularly.

The selection and application of shock-proof pressure gauges involve a combination of technology and experience. From the basic industrial applications of YN-60 to the complex working conditions of YN-150ZQ, from the economy of copper alloys to the high corrosion resistance of 316L stainless steel, every detail reflects the craftsmanship of industrial design.
